Care for your vehicle after a road trip
When it’s time to pack for the holidays, most vehicle owners have their vehicles serviced before taking the trip. But they don’t necessarily do the same when they return home safely. Performing a post-trip inspection is a very good habit to get into to avoid unforeseen and costly repairs in the future.
Autoway Car Service Centre Ruimsig suggests a few easy checks to carry out at home after a long trip to ensure your vehicle is still safe and problem-free. If you find anything to be out of place, your car service centre will do a full assessment to determine whether it needs urgent attention.
• Make sure that the basic emergency tools and equipment are still where they belong – in your car. These include triangles, spare wheel, jumper cables, first-aid kit, and a tyre pressure gauge. Don’t get stuck without these must-have items in your car.
• Check that the tyre pressure is suitable for daily commuting and that the alignment and wheel balance is still perfect after the trip. Replace tyres with a tread of less than 1.6mm, and don’t forget about the spare wheel – make sure it has sufficient tread, and it’s at the correct pressure always.
• Your car service centre will check the lights, windscreen wipers, and windscreen as part of their assessment, but you can do the same for your immediate safety and peace of mind.
Hopefully, you find everything in order, and your vehicle is safe and ready for its daily travels. But if everything is not exactly as expected, don’t hesitate to take your vehicle to your trusted car service centre for a full diagnostic sweep. A MIWA accredited workshop will ensure that all necessary checks are done, including battery charging performance and radiator health, to identify any problems. They are also geared to carry out any repairs that might be needed to keep your vehicle going for longer.
Keep loving your vehicle and give it the care it deserves, and it will keep taking you the extra mile.
